I bought my pair of mirror door G4's new and the fans were noisy.
People complained about the noise. Apple came out with a firmware
update that quieted (Slowed) the fans. Recently my G4's have begun to
simply quit. I suspected overheating so I installed Antec Super
blowers in the upper PCI slots (This big blower takes up two PCI
slots) and this solved the problem.
My theory is that Apple's firmware update slowed the fans and
predisposed the mirror door G4's to overheating problems, especially
after they get older and dustier. Does anyone know if I can go back
to the original firmware and get the noisy but more effective fan
speeds back?
Thanks,
James K Morgan
