See also: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2064676 I had a Dual-1.0 GHz MDD (original, non-FireWire-800), which has a 167 MHz system bus and now it's running a Dual-1.42 GHz (out of a FW800) without any problems -- and without the need of modifications aside from the processor card swap. The only importaint thing is to use the correct heat sink, because the one from the Dual-1.0 GHz doesn't have the capacity to offload enough heat, so you definitely need the one from the Dual-1.42 GHz out of the FW800 it came with.
