Don't know the whys and wherefores, but I remember reading that even  
though FW is better than SCSI, occasionally, people experience what is  
known as FW VooDoo ... and doing what you did is a remedy. If I run  
across the articles, I will forward them to the thread. Maybe someone  
else can clarify and refer us sooner.
