I have used isopropyl alcohol to soak into the mechanisms of mice when I
could not get them apart. also I have used WD 40 with success..

I have never in over a decade and a half of such use witnessed any harmful
effects to rubber, plastic or metal with either one.
this is with mice from many manufacturers on three different hardware
platforms.

The wire to the mouse will ( and has ) wear out long before any corrosion or
rubber loss will be found.
