Kasey,
I just spent 40 minutes on the phone with Uverse tech support, and
as it turns out, the problem is apparently our use of two 2.4 ghz
cordless phones. I've unplugged them and miraculously our service is
improved. The only odd thing is that we had one of these phones when
we initiated our service a year and a half ago. Nothing was mentioned
about the possible interference then. Oh, well, it's relatively
inexpensive and easy fix.
Wireless phones change frequency automatically to find a clear channel.
Depending on the particulars of your set up the phone could easily
change to a frequency in the range of your WiFi without seeing the WiFi
as interference. You could go a year without seeing a problem or it
could cycle in and out of being a problem over days or less.
Some wireless phones, bluetooth, some wireless video cameras, WiFi,
microwave ovens all use the same 2.4GHz band. There is basically no
control over it so they are free to step on each other.
