Hi my G4 has a problem. When I start up it beeps once then goes to open firmware.

Single beep at startup is a RAM issue. Try reseating the RAM in its slot(s). If that doesn't eliminate the beep, remove sticks until the beep is gone, or use a single "known good" stick.

It will not start up from the install disk or either of my 2 internal hard drives. From opn firmfirm ware I must type "mac-boot" and it starts right up but only on the disk that needs repair or erase and install. How do I get past this? Any ideas?

Use the Option key at boot to direct the boot to any other bootable device or partition.
