Here is a simple solution that worked for me when I first got my Power Mac
G4 Graphite. Make sure that the jumper settings on the hard drive are not
misplaced and set as a "Slave" drive. Make sure you have a good DVD drive. I
had some problems with some older macs in which I had to completely replace
the old CD/DVD drive. Make sure that the DVD you are using is compatible
with the DVD drive itself. You could be using a dual-layer DVD, and your DVD
drive might not be able to read it. An external DVD drive from best buy
should help. Check to make sure you have no bad connections, missing parts,
or bad motherboards. Check to make sure that your Power Mac G4 MDD has no
errors in it's open firmware.

Just in case, turn on the MDD and press and hold COMMAND+OPTION+P+R and hold
it until you hear another "Bong". This will reset the open firmware
information and screen resolution so you can resolve any issues with
installing the system if the MDD was used to another OS X.
