Mail will bloat on me too, although not as bad. I'll get up to 100MB real memory after a day or two. Safari hangs around using 300MB with around 10 open windows. When I quit and reopen, it starts out at 43MB with no windows open. When I open windows from last session it immediately doubles and grows back to 250MB in a few minutes.

I'm using a G4 DP 1GHz with 1.5 GB Ram. OS 10.5.8.
The Intel MacPros here don't do this.

What's "kernel_task"? That is large at 173MB.

My activity Monitor list oscillates - list grows and shrinks - between 25 and 30 items. The items that jump on and off are small in memory usage and not user apps. This happens quickly enough to make it difficult to determine what items they are. Anybody else observe this?
