My sons machine is an iMac 24" 2.8 10.6.2 The boot drive is internal. the external drives are two 2TB Acomdata they are used only as file storage for video stuff. The problem we have is as time goes on the Mac takes a long long time booting, If we diconect the externals it boots right up. So I was told that it's reading something on the drives and may take a long time to boot due to the large capacity of them, We can boot sans drives and connect afterward and all works fine.

Guessing isn't solving the problem.

Go look at the system log.
