I have a PM G5 Dual 2.7 10.4.11 and 10.5.8. lately it goes to the screen saver an I can't wake it up.also some time nothing on the desk top is responsive.
If this occurs on both 10.4.11 and 10.5.8, it's likely a failing HD if both OS versions are located on the same HD. This is what happen with a HD becomes unresponsive in a working system. If the HD happens to be one of the Seagate drives with the bad firmware, it might be fixable with new firmware?: < http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=207931 >
If each OS version is on a separate HD, it's likely a worse problem, something wrong with the HD controller or the logicboard. This can occur with a bad power supply, or leaky coolant. This is hard to fix.
If it only occurs in one OS version (either 10.4.11 OR 10.5.8, but NOT both), then it could be a software issue related to sleep. The simple solution would be to reinstall the latest Combo Update and see if that fixes it. If not, you'd need a reinstallation of the OS version.

My G5 2.7x2 had a liquid coolant leakage and it all started with the same symptoms.
Reports on this list have said that the way to minimize this coolant leakage failure is to leave the computer running 24x7x365 so that the coolant is always moving and always constant temperature. Turning off these liquid cooled G5's is a recipe for leakage and failure. If this is the problem, it's likely too late to save the logicboard unless something is done immediately, and even then, it's still probably too late.
