I've posted this message earlier in the 1st-powermacs list, and I apologize for doing so, I didn't know this list. So, here goes:
"Hello all, I recently got a PowerMac G3 desktop (the "Gossamer" model). It came with Mac OS 8.0 installed (using a system enabler, so I believe it is the stock operating system), and I wanted to upgrade it to Mac OS 9.2 (it already has 96 MB of RAM in it, so it will work fine!). The problem is that I can't make it to boot with the OS 9 CD I have here. I've tried booting with the "C" key pressed, and I've tried to manually select the CD in the startup disk control panel (the disk shows on the desktop, and it is browsable, so I believe the CD-ROM drive is good.). It came with a dead PRAM battery, and I've replaced with a good one. I also reseted the PRAM, and even tried to boot with a OS 8 CD, but nothing, the machine won't boot at all from the CD! It keeps booting from the internal disk. What can I do about it? Should I use an external SCSI drive? Regards, Manuel Marques (http://babylonlc.no-ip.org:8080) " (after sending this message, I tried to forbid the computer from booting its internal drive by dragging the Finder outside the system folder, but that didn't help - in fact, it made it worse, as now I have the floppy with the flashing question mark, and all the CDs I have will not boot the machine!) -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
