I'll try that. Thanks for the idea. I have a local certified apple repair 
company (or whatever it is called) only a few drive minutes away.
I only fear they will want (too much) money for the diagnosis.

For the G5 they probably still have spares. Anyway, the power button may be a 
also an idea where to look for faults. That is, if the PSU prooves working, 
but since the click isn't there anymore, I doubt the PSU is working.
