My Power Mac G4 desktop (M8570 - 1.2 single) has some strange habits:
occasionally it will freeze completely and regularly an app will crash
with a message to the effect that something had been trying to access
invalid memory.
It came (used) with only the first three DIMM slots full. When I put a
matched set of four in, it froze completely - either straight away or
after a few minutes and sometimes wouldn't even start up.
I've tried swapping the DIMMs around, resetting the PMU - nothing
makes any difference, other than leaving the fourth slot (the one
nearest the catch) free, when it reverts to the first scenario above
but is, at least, useable.
If anyone has experience of this problem or can suggest a solution,
I'd be very glad to hear it.
