The FW800 is basically a MDD with FireWire-800 added and a different firmware that removed the Mac OS 9 compatibility. From the Quicksilver 2002 onward (that is QS2002 and MDD) there were special versions of Mac OS 9 required. The last Power Mac to support retail Mac OS 9 was the Quicksilver (original, from 2001). > My MDD is a > FW400.Originaly a Dual 1.0 and I upgraded it to a Dual 1.25 > I have to be able to boot OS 9. Mine was a MDD Dual-1 GHz and now is a Dual-1.42 GHz. Works like a charm. Even though Mac OS 9 should still be bootable (has nothing to do with the processors, rather with the firmware on the logic board) – I was not able to test it. I had a version of Mac OS 9 that was incompatible with the MDD – I got my MDD used without the original discs… Cheers, Andreas aka Mac User #330250 -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
