The HD is important, but not the bottleneck for this computer and the
work your friend wants to do on it.
Get a nice and cheap 120GB or 160GB ATA/IDE drive and let her try how
things go.

If it’s too slow, it won’t be because of the HD, but because of the
processor. So before investing in a SATA card and drive, I would
rather put some money on the side for a nice Mac Mini in the future.
Even the model with a G4 processor will be lengths ahead of this
Digital Audio, and those are very affordable by now.
