Journaling takes care of the file system, and when a HD has journaling, fsck isn't done:

You'd only need fsck IF you run Disk Utility>Verify Disk and it FAILS and says the HD needs repair. You can run fsck manually from single user mode boot; or by running Disk Utility>Repair Disk from another bootable System or disc.
