My MDD G4's also only shut down when I was not using them. But after
a while they began to occasionally refuse to start. Got a glowing
light in the start button when I pushed it but no start. This
progressed to no starting at all. The shutting down on it's own was
the beginning of the end.
I went through guilt trips. I thought maybe I had not kept the G4's
clean enough and had overheated them. Ect. Then I found out the power
supply in the MDD G4's have issues and it wasn't my fault.
I don't know of any way to check to see if it is a failing power
supply but I certainly recommend that you back up your entire
computer to an external hard drive. And start watching for a good
used power supply.

Well, this only happens when I am not using it.
Any way to check (that does not involve paying someone)?
I am looking for a nice multi-tip power cord so I can plug in the
other hub.
Walmart used to sell them but the only ones they sell now are for
use in your car, you plug them into your cigarette lighter.

Mac: G4 Quicksilver (800 MHz)
1.5 GB SDRAM
3 HD, 1 CD-ROM
USB Ports have 5 USB sticks, a Memory Card and my Olmpus Digital
Camera plugged into them (see below for detail) plus the KB
Back of the Mac has a port which has 1 card plus the Olypus. Also
has a cord to a non-Powered Hub. This has a Powered Hub plugged
into it. (I need a 5V cord to power this thing and cannot find one)
Powered Hub has 2 USB Sticks plugged into it,
KP has the Memory Card and my Logitech USB Mouse
PROBLEM: First off, this NEVER happens when I use the machine
When I am away it randomly shuts down.
It is NOT set to sleep under Energy Saver
Under System Preferences I see nothing about shutting down
Now, I blew out (with me providing the air) what little dust was
inside (I will get a new can of air today) and under the tower.
What else can I do? I have not had this problem until recently
(never with the Smurf or previous machines, some of which had many
more HDs hooked up (externally but same power strip)
