Well, try removing the PCI-X Firewire card and checking the drive again.  But 
it sounds like the drive electronics are fubar.  That it seems to show up at 
all says they are working but since it's providing very little information that 
indicates it's broken.

Other than pulling the PCI-X card I'd say it's time to look for a new external 
drive interface.

You did unplug and power off the drive didn't you?
