Ok. So I ran disk utility, and left the machine unattended. It fell asleep after the verification came back OK. When I woke it up, it froze the same way it did before. I'm realizing that every time I ran the software update, the computer fell asleep at the end, and it froze when I woke it. So maybe it has a problem waking up?
