I think I might have figured it out. I was reading a website about adapting ATX power supplies to G4 powermacs, and something the author said caught my attention. He said that one drawback is that deep sleep requires 5v and the ATX power supply can't do this, and putting it to sleep could result in freezes upon waking.
While this machine has the stock power supply, what if it is faulty, and that is why it freezes after waking up.
