If your external drives never seem big enough, then the Cloud is definitely not for you. Most services provide less than 100GB - and that's for a hefty monthly fee. Most of the free options are in the single digits GB-wise. Not only do cloud services provide a relatively small amount of storage space in relation to hard drives, they're slow. You're limited by the speed of your internet connection, which is no match for SATA or USB/FireWire. A 100GB iTunes library would take about 3 days at best to upload to the cloud over a 4mbps upstream internet connection. Then there's the question of whether you want to trust a company with your music and photos - a company that could potentially go defunct, and take your data with them.
