As long as the overall length and diameter is the same, it really doesn't matter. A 1/2-AA battery from one manufacturer is going to perform essentially the same as any other. Maxell is one brand with the "high tip," as you put it. It performs just as well as other brands which have a longer barrel and a shorter tip, such as Tadiran and SAFT. They are all 1/2-AA, which is what you need, never mind the physical appearances.
