Is it normal to have to do a opt-cmd-P-R after installing the Kensington MouseWorks 3 into OS X 10.5.8?

I kept getting kernal panics on my Digital Audio Dual 533 under 10.5.8 after a first attempt with a fresh download of the file from their site.

After doing a Safe Boot, and a Reboot, yet another kernal panic.

I finally decided to try the opt-cmd-P-R, and all seems to be well ...

Any comments about this c. 2006 mouse driver by Kensington?
When did OS X 10.5 come out, anyway?
