What Peter said, +... SATA drives tend to be slightly less power hungry just because they're based on newer technologies. The difference isn't all the much tho.

The drive motor is the big power user, so check the spindle speed. These new-fangled eco friendly drives aren't really something new, they're just spinning slower, 3200 or 4500rpm instead of 7200 or 10000 - which makes them less expensive and higher profit. If you don't mind the slower access times, then they can be a good deal.

The real savings comes from having the drive spun down...
