I recently moved to Brazil and unfortunately my G5 was damaged when the movers dropped and damaged the shipping box. The computer took a severe hit to the lower right corner, bending the aluminum handle and causing it to separate from the computer. When I tested it, (3 different monitors, same result) the image displayed had numerous small black rectangles covering the screen completely, causing it to be unusable. I took a chance on buying another (used) video card on ebay, had it shipped over and it helped, however now I have black lines underneath all the desktop icons and folders. Most of my work is done in photoshop and when I use it, the images appear fine, but there are those thin black lines in rows behind anything that is opened up and also around the cursor where ever it is pointed, and on any of the selected tools in photoshop, making it difficult to perform precise work. When I play a dvd movie, the image looks soft and somewhat pixelated, the same way it looks with the program Microsoft Word, which is so bad I need to use my laptop anytime I have to use word. Most everything else looks fine, browsing the web, etc. just those thin black lines behind everything and following the mouse pointer everywhere I move it. Very annoying. Any ideas?
I have images showing this problem at the link below. The 5 images show in this order: #1-with photoshop being used, #2- with Microsoft Word, #3-After the damage but before the replacement video card, 4-after the replacement video card showing the thin black lines with cursor at the dock, 5-after the replacement video card showing the lines behind all the desktop icons. http://s754.photobucket.com/albums/xx188/spilrules/G5%20screens%20shots/ I have no idea if it matters, but the computer is a G5 2.0 ghz dual processor, 4.5 gb ram Also the original video card was an ATI Radeon 9800 w/256mb, the replacement I received was the same model number but only had 128mb of video ram. It was listed on ebay as 256, and also with the same model and part numbers, which is why I bought it. Being so far from the states made it difficult and expensive to return so I took credit for the difference in price. I don't think the video ram difference is causing these thin black lines however I am no expert, thus looking for advice from someone who is! Thanks to anyone who may have an answer, as it is difficult for me to get help where I am now located. Tom Any advice is greatly appreciated. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
