I have an occasional problem similar to those mentioned above. My G52 2.3
GHz Dual Processor (early 2003 if I remember correctly) fan speeds
sometimes make no sense at all.

I have the same problem with my G4 MDD:
OS 10.58
1.42 GHz.
2 GB ram
USB 3 PCI card
Sonnet SATA card with two 1.5 TB drives
350 GB hard drive on the ATA bus where the OS 10.58 is installed.

About every two weeks or so the temperature spikes and the fans speed up.
Usually after a restart everything returns to normal for while.
I have left Activity Monitor running and it doesn't show any increase in CPU usage, nor does it show any rouge applications running.

I have opened the case and blew out and vacuumed the dust, including the side panel which acts as an air intake and the PSU as good as I could.

My problem didn't show up until I installed the Sonnet card and I am wondering if that is the cause. Other than that it runs great and I don't feel like removing the Sonnet card to verify if indeed that is the problem.
