USB 3.0 is supposed to be a replacement for Firewire, hence many new mobos
have USB 3.0 but not Firewire.
No, it's meant as competition for, not a replacement.
The systems have usb3 because the chips are cheaper than fw.
And Mac will have USB 3 next year, because Intel is putting out their
first implementation, as part of the Ivy Bridge chip set.
