Any reason why a late 2005 G5 quad would show a different serial number on the side label vs the system profile info screen?
I'm looking to buy.

Rough quick guess is a replaced motherboard. Is this a liquid cooled unit? With the reported problems it sounds like that happens semi often.

When Apple replaces a motherboard they make the serial # match, so it would be a used replacement motherboard from another Mac if the serial doesn't match the case. As previously said, the liquid- cooled leak and fry the motherboard, so seeing a replaced motherboard probably isn't that rare.

so then this is likely NOT an APPLE repair...
as to evaluating it as a purchase...
if it works... it works?
