I'm still full of hate for Apple for discontinuing support, there's

probably mandated it.
Nah. Intel had nothing to do with it.
Apple is a hardware company. The OS and such is just a side-line
used to sell... More Hardware. They make diddly from people that
keep their hardware for more than a few thousand ns. Support for the
older systems, interfaces, protocols, etc, was dropped because L'Jobs
gave the order. He made the conscious decision to go after a certain
market, and just didn't care about the rest.
I'm just not sure how to migrate everything from the G4 to a G5
OS X is monolithic. That means as long as the system supports it,
you can move it around as-is.
The easiest thing to do is to move the HD from one system to the other.
The next easiest is to boot the G5 in Target Disk Mode and connect it
to the G4 with a firewire cable. That will make the G5's HD show up
on the G4's desktop. Then use CarbonCopyCloner (CCC) to slam a copy
of your system onto that HD.

Or use CCC to make a bootable clone on an external drive, then boot
the G5 on it.
Or... heh. Lots of options. The point being that doing an OS
reinstall is NOT necessary unless the target system requires a
different OS. And if that's the case, you do the install then use
Apple's Migration Assistant to copy over your settings, apps, and
user data.
