I have acquired a G5. In reading about it I have stumbled onto something called Transition Manager. From what I understand this program is supposed to transfer all of your settings from your old Mac to your new Mac. Supposedly, it will transfer programs, too. Does anyone have experience with this? I have some software that came installed on my old DA G4 that I don't have the original discs. I think they are all OS X Power PC software. Will these transfer to the G5?
I have also become aware of a patch that will modify the Rom on a G% so it will run OS 9. Does anyone know anything about this. Is this worth messing with? Finally, I bought an UPS, and happily it has already paid for itself. I had one of those winking on an off power surges like the one that blew out the power supply to my DA G4 last year. My DA went through this untouched. However, the G5 seems to suck too much power for this thing. It came with an 80gig HD and it seemed to run OK. I got a 400gig HD for it and once I tried doing more involved stuff with it the UPS shut down. The UPS isn't all that big, 425 watts, I think. How big an UPS do I need need for the G5 and a 23 inch flatscreen?
