That should have worked, but I've never used one quite like that. The issue 
with an LCD is that they often have just one display frequency, and if the 
adapter isn't producing it they display nothing. CRT VGA displays would work at 
multiple frequencies. If you can scrounge up one of those, even for just 
testing, this may help diagnose the issue.

This is like the ones I've used, but still only ever on CRT's. I think trying 
to get it working on a CRT first is a better idea.

If the drivers aren't installed I don't know of the voodoo-based cards will 
work.

This eliminates some odd setting for video. 

Find a CRT; that's where I'd start..if it doesn't work with a CRT monitor, I'd 
probably not waste any more money on it, because it's likely dead.
