Kind of depends on what it's doing. You said it's an FTP server, so it's mainly IO. That's disk speed and network speed. What performance issues are you having? Remember if you're serving through a local network you'll get n=better performance than if you're serving to the WAN, unless you've got a really great internet connection. Most home systems are ~10-12 MBPS and they start crapping out waaaaay before the limit.
