Hi! I’ve got this Cube and some other Power Macs G4… and I’m really happy with them. But I’d like to add Wireless LAN, especially to the Cube.
Actually, I already have the original Airport. But my wireless router is configured to use WPA2 AES/PSK for security reasons. The original Airport 801.11b doesn’t support WPA2 and I’m not sure whether it supports AES. I’ve found this: http://lowendmac.com/macdan/md09/mac-wifi-pc-card.htm The Belkin F5D7011 (801.11g) using the Broadcom chip looks like a suitable candidate to me, but it is not clarified yet whether it will support WPA2. Also, I’ve heard that Belkin (like any other manufactorer) might change which chip is used in a model. If I buy an F5D7011 it is not certain that it acually uses the Broadcom wireless chip. Does anyone have an idea or a reliable source for PCMCIA Airport compatible card for a Power Mac G4 (excluding the FW800) and Cube? The questions are, in short: 1) PCMCIA (not USB!) and Airport compatible? 2) WPA2? 3) AES and PSK? 4) works on which versions of Mac OS 8/9/10? (for the Cube, Mac OS 9 support would be great) I’m aware this question might have been asked before, but I just couldn’t find it answered in this very detail (WPA2/AES/PSK)… Also, I found a lot of answers to use a USB adapter… BUT for the Cube, I really need PCMCIA, not USB. On the other Power Macs, where I can add a PCI USB 2.0 expansion card, I already found the perfect USB WiFi adapter for Mac OS X: Edimax EW-7717Un (RT2870 chip). It supports Mac OS X 10.3+, Windows 98+ and Linux, so I can really use it anywhere (except Mac OS 9 that is)! Thanks in advance!
