A friend has offered to sell me his Quad Core G5 which he says is in

One problem he noticed was that in Sleep Mode, it would occasionally

I am concerned about the LCS ... except that it is a Late 2005 model.
He says he has cleaned the inside, making it free of dust ... and
noticed no fluids of any kind. Then, I asked him about the LCS, and he
didn't know it had one ... so I assume he has not looked at the cpu
area.

It's already packed for shipping ... so opening it back up was not an
option ... he says it is running just fine.

What would you do?

Hi Bill,

If it was me I'd get it. Any computer could fail at any time for a myriad of reasons, especially ones this old. I believe all the Quad Cores had the Panasonic LCS which ended up being much better than the original model. The covers around the CPUs are not easily removed and are there to help with the cooling air flow. As for "sleep" mode, you can always go into System Settings and turn it off entirely for the monitor and the computer. Best of luck!

All the best,

Hal
