Actually what I REALLY recommend is maintaining regular backups and restoring the deleted stuff from backup :-), but I try not to rub it in too much in these cases. Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner make this very simple to do, and Time Machine is free. Restoring with a utility like Data Rescue is tedious, expensive and time-intensive. Get an external HDD, plug it in and let Time Machine do it’s thing.
