Initial Comment: Hello, I am unable to login to any Irc network. I created an Irc account with the screenname "bram.westerbaan" and the rest left to default. When I try to sign in with this account it reaches halfway and remains there. I did not observe any timeout. I retried this procedure several times whilst tweaking possible parameters. I also searched the Faq but found no help. There is additional information below. problem but with a valid account name/password on irc.chatspike.net, since about 1 or 2 months ago when they revamped configs on irc.ptnet.org and on my private irc server the login occurs automaticaly and succeeds (/msg nickserv identify xxxxxxxxx), on irc.freenode.net it used to, havent tried in months however on chatspike, it never happens. i have to manually do the login a little If you could login with a period (I assume with Gaim) then I see not why this could be the reason. I should be my system configuration which 'blocks' irc connections. So that is likely why you are getting connection errors. Although, i connected with the nick you provided here, it just simply stripped everything after the period...I asked in #hyperion (the ircd developers for the freenode ircd).
