Initial Comment: A few minutes ago I was noticed that Google Talk finally got avatars! After a moment of intense joy, I realized that if Gaim Adium & Co didn't support it, I won't see other peoples' avatars for months, if not years. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Megan Schneider (ciran) Date: 2007-02-14 01:14 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=801517 Originator: NO Has duplicate: 1617764 (with some comments) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Mike (delusional) Date: 2006-04-12 04:24 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1009668 Update to my last comment. It seems the Google Talk official client cached an icon I set using an official client on another system, rather than using the one set in Gaim. This means that point 1 in my comment is incorrect, it appears buddy icons set in Gaim do not propogate to other users. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Mike (delusional) Date: 2006-04-12 04:01 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1009668 I did a small experiment and can confirm that: 1. A buddy icon set from Gaim on a Google Talk account will appear for another user using the official Google Talk client. 2. The buddy icon for the other person set in the Google Talk client does not appear in Gaim. These were both done on the same Google Talk account details from Gaim 2.0b3/win32. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: JFlac (jflac) Date: 2006-04-08 03:36 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1057947 I just made a formal test, by opening Gaim 2.0b3 and Google Talk, with two different Google Talk accounts. Gaim 2.0b3 didn't show my avatar. If it can be of any help, it seems that the avatar system is the same Jabber hack that is used in Mac OS X's iChat. I can say that because one of my contacts once used iChat as a Google Talk client and, even if he doesn't use it anymore, the official Google Talk client showed me his iChat picture. Since the hack used in Apple's iChat has shown its ability to store the avatar on the server (that's different from MSN, of that I'm sure, and probably AIM too), and it is compatible, it really looks like the same hack. I hope I was clear enough. I need more sleep. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Etan Reisner (deryni9) Date: 2006-04-07 11:45 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=516184 Do you know that gaim doesn't support the google talk avatars? Or are you just speculating that they might not? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=100235&aid=1466076&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
