Because of windoze has 3 charsets for each locale (Unicode, ANSI, OEM), all text sent thru ICQ protocol, which not marked/known as unicode, actually are in ANSI charset. But non-win32 gaim versions doesn't event know about it. So those texts are mapped to first 255 chars in system encoding (UTF-8 in my case). There is a known workaround for this: run gaim like this "LOCALE=cp1251 && gaim". Best solution is to add parameter specially for ICQ protocol for non-win32 versions 'ANSI charset', so user could select it manually. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Dmitriy Geels (dm_ig) Date: 2007-02-23 00:33 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=915650 Originator: YES hmm... It seems to fix the problem: didn't test with contacts, with which I always had charset problems (some damned old-buggy icq version), but everything else is almost good, only some problems in userinfo (looks like this is not charset dependent). I see one difference: group names got from server in charset, that specified in settings. But I have all group names stored on server as unicode. So, if I specify cp1251, I get garbage, when group names are got from server. Don't know, in what charset group names must be stored (Miranda saves them as unicode). I'll test this once more, when I find someone with old enough icq client. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Richard Laager (rlaager) Date: 2007-02-21 11:20 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=156487 Originator: NO Try it and see if it fixes your problem. If it does not, then let us know. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Dmitriy Geels (dm_ig) Date: 2007-02-21 11:11 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=915650 Originator: YES do you mean, that charset is used only for non-unicode texts? if so, this is the thing I asked for or it used everywhere? then there is need for second charset - 'ANSI' ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Richard Laager (rlaager) Date: 2007-02-21 04:18 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=156487 Originator: NO Where would you expect such an option? I ask because the place I'd expect it is in the account options for an ICQ account, which is exactly where the "encoding" option exists now. Doesn't that work? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=350235&aid=1664242&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
