Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: irc Group: None >Status: Closed Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Philip Craig (philipcraig) Assigned to: Ethan Blanton (eblanton) Summary: Allow reconnect to be switched off for irc Initial Comment: In IRC, I do not want automatic reconnect. In the 2.0.0 release, the reconnect behaviour is hard-wired. Can you please make it a preference, either for irc or across all protocols? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2007-04-09 21:15 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 Originator: NO As we are closing this tracker, please submit any feature request that is still valid to http://developer.pidgin.im. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Philip Craig (philipcraig) Date: 2006-11-15 15:17 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=68755 Originator: YES In particlar the line "Collided wtih new user" comes from dircproxy's source file irc_client.c when it disconnects an existing client in order to allow a new incoming connection, which is what is going on. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Philip Craig (philipcraig) Date: 2006-11-15 15:04 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=68755 Originator: YES Possibly it does. I can't see anything in GAIM itself, but in the MIRC status window I see: Closing Link: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Collided with new user) - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Richard Laager (rlaager) Date: 2006-11-10 10:12 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=156487 Does dircproxy give any kind of notice when this happens? If so, I'd be willing to put code in the IRC Helper plugin to deal with this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Philip Craig (philipcraig) Date: 2006-11-10 06:15 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=68755 I do not want IRC to reconnect. It's NOT that I want to get a choice of what autoconnects at startup. I really really don't want IRC to reconnect. The reason is analogous to why for e.g. yahoo and MSN, people do not want the services to reconnect if they have signed in from another location. This is exactly what is happening to me with IRC -- I connect via dircproxy service which keeps my IRC session forever. I connect to the dircproxy session from different locations/computers etc. But now, if I connect with GAIM, then when I connect to the dircproxy from elsewhere, GAIM goes and reconnects me, kicking me out from elsewhere. This keeps happening until I can kill the GAIM session. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Richard Laager (rlaager) Date: 2006-11-09 23:51 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=156487 Sorry, my bad. This is why "(submitter)" would be handy. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ethan Blanton (eblanton) Date: 2006-11-09 23:48 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=298616 shedplant was not the original submitter. We are yet to hear why philipcraig does not want reconnection. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Richard Laager (rlaager) Date: 2006-11-09 23:44 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=156487 So it's not that you don't want auto-reconnect, it's that you don't want it signed in at startup. Here's what you should try: 1. Click the status selector, click New. 2. Name this "All But IRC" 3. Set the base status to "Available" 4. Click the expander, click the checkbox next to your IRC account. 5. Choose Offline as the IRC account's status. 6. Click OK, click Save. 7. Tools -> Preferences, click the Status/Idle tab 8. Uncheck "Use status from last exit at startup" 9. Choose "All But IRC" from the drop-down. Now, when you start Gaim, it will use the "All But IRC" status that you created. That status says, "Set everything to available, except this IRC account which should be Offline." If you later want to sign the IRC account on, click the status selector and choose Available. The saved status framework and the "Use...last...[status] at startup" vs. use a given saved status preference allow for extreme flexibility in what happens, far beyond that old auto-login checkbox. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Shed (shedplant) Date: 2006-11-09 19:02 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1627500 I sometimes use IRC for downloading anime. I then don't want to sign into these channels when I start up, though I would want to sign into MSN and YIM. The best solution imo is to let the user decide what should autologin (like before). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Richard Laager (rlaager) Date: 2006-11-09 16:45 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=156487 Why don't you want IRC to reconnect automatically? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Shed (shedplant) Date: 2006-11-09 13:21 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1627500 I would like to see automatic reconnection of all protocols, but especially IRC, disabled or optional. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=350235&aid=1591885&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
