Category: None Group: None >Status: Closed Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Benjamin Miller (bmiller) Assigned to: Nathan Walp (faceprint) Summary: Buddy List Import/Export Initial Comment: It would be handy to be able to save a buddy list to and load it from an external file. I know they're usually stored on the server nowadays, but, for example, I have two AIM screennames, and I like to keep the two buddylists in sync. I'd be happy to write a patch to do this, if the developers are interested. -Ben ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2007-04-10 16:39 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 Originator: NO As we are closing this tracker, please submit any feature request that is still valid to http://developer.pidgin.im. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ilya Konstantinov (ikonst) Date: 2005-11-27 06:07 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=335423 Unless you want this plugin to be hideous, the buddy list format import/export functions should be in the public API. In my private plugin, I've just copied the import/export XML code but that's clearly not the way to go. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: carbonplexus (carbonplexus) Date: 2005-11-27 00:52 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1390035 Yeah this plugin is definately needed. I know they say you don't need it because 'the servers' take care of it but I know the AOL servers have eaten my buddy list at least 3 times over the years (luckily I always backed up my list after I made any changes) and now when I have to reboot into windows and log into AIM to backup my buddy list it's kind of annoying :-/ (though I do it) Thank you in advance to whoever implements this feature ^_^ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ilya Konstantinov (ikonst) Date: 2005-03-13 15:33 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=335423 Some other client has devoured my buddy lists and I still have my Gaim blist.xml, so now I'll try writing an importer plugin (in C). Wish me luck. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Chris Gould (ikanatto) Date: 2004-07-09 14:05 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=425674 This would also be useful so that i can export port a contact list containing everyone in my department, then e-mail it out to the department so not everyone has to manually add the contacts. Would also be nice to be able to export client settings as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2004-06-17 07:11 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 a patch for this would be nice, alternatively, you should be able to write a perl script to parse the blist.xml and pull out only those buddies you want (ie the ones belonging to one account). either way you go, i'd be interested in the result. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Eric (hiware) Date: 2004-06-17 02:56 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=954560 I would also like to see this functionality specifically for this purpose. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=350235&aid=973662&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
