Summary: ICQ "floating" users

Initial Comment:
The most useful feature of ICQ (and one of the reasons
I hate AIM) is the "floating users" option. I'd like
to request at least a plugin that would allow this
function. I'm not a programmer, or I would start
something myself. I know that many people don't like
the floating option, but I use it constantly in ICQ!

still valid to http://developer.pidgin.im. Thanks.

I have a plugin mostly written to do this, it currently uses
a change to gaim that I haven't finished and commited yet.
One of these days I'll either finish and commit the changes
or fix the plugin to not need them. I'll update when I'm done.

I'd like to add my vote for the ICQ "Floating Users" feature.
I've tried other IM clients but I always end up back using
ICQ because I really like the floating users feature. I
won't use the newer ICQ clients because they don't have it.

What's useful about it is that out of the large number of
people in various categories (family, friends, work, etc.)
that I have on my contact list, there is a small subset that
I like to be able to look at my desktop and see if they are
online or not.

So I have 9 floating users (little windows just big enough
for the name) arranged in the upper right of my desktop, and
I can glance over and see the blue names are people online
and the red names are people offline at the current moment.

It would be awesome if GAIM had this functionality.
