That actually seems to be a tradition with the Downey family. Not only my brother but all his friends with him jumped not only from the roof, but also from the big TV tower--remember the days of TV antennas... Then when I got older my nephews started doing it, and my niece as well. I told them they were crazy, but none of them ever got hurt doing it. Here in Norwalk Ohio they do something even more dangerous. There is a trestle overlooking part of the reservoir that is about 60 feet above the water, and kids jump into the water. If you throw a rock down off the trestle into the reservoir it takes about two seconds for the rock to splash down--that's how far a jump it is. Knowing that kids have died doing just that in the past, these crazy teens--some of my wife's family members among them, do it anyway. That's why when people complain about trampolines I just laugh.
