Hi David. No, I wasn't suggesting that all the starships be of the same class. What I was thinking first that all the major classes be represented in the game. Second, under those classes of starships would be multiple possible ships to choose from. For example, say you just pressed play new game.
Select starship class. Defiant-Class Excelsior-Class Intrepid-Class Saber-Class Sovereign-Class For examples sake let's assume you picked the Sovereign=-Class it might look like this. Select Starship Enterprise Monarchy Seleya Sovereign At this point you would actually choose the starship you will be commanding. However, as mentioned before and as Phil aptly pointed out selecting the actual name of the starship is simply giving the ship a name as Enterprise, Monarchy, and Seleya, are physically identical. However, those ships would not be the same as those in the Intrepid-Class menu of Hayden, Janeva, Victoria, etc... Those ships would be completely different. As to your point about strongest, most well armed, that really depends on purpose. Each class has advantages and disadvantages. For example compare the Sovereign-Class to the Defiant-Class. the Sovereign-Class ships like Enterprise have superior firepower. However, the Defiant-Class has a cloaking device and superior speed. How can anyone really say one is better than the other?
