Good point Lisa. When you measure the prices of accessible games versus
those of other products for the blind, it's actually more than reasonable.
Look at JFW and the other screen readers. Look at Open Book scanning
software. All those programs sell for at least a tousand dollars if not
more, 900 if you're lcky. Then you look at the accessible games, most of
which cost between 19 and thirty-five dollars. The most expensive accessible
games I've seen are from Bavisoft, and they cost between forty-three and
forty-five bucks. Granted this is rather steep considering the overall
shorness of their games and the lack of any real replay value, bu I have
never seen a game more expensive than Bavisoft's. I wouldn't know about
Terraformers. But it reaffirms what Lisa was trying to say. Compared to
everything else for the blind, the games are actually cheap.
It ain't pretty when the pretty leaves you with no place to go.

I've never heard of this cartridge thing. However, mainstream games that
are
bought for the computer or other systems such as Nintendo or Xbox, cost
just
as much or more than accessible games. I know that my brother has bought
games for his xbox that cost nearly $50. So from my perspective, accessible
games are actually an incredibly good deal. Think of it this way. Most
products specifically designed for the blind are usually incredibly
expensive. The reason being that there isn't nearly as much demand for
something specifically designed for the blind as there would be for
something mainstream. Since costs go up when demand is lower, prices for
specially adapted products are generally high. I was actually pleasantly
surprised at how reasonable games for the blind are.
Another thing, I'm not sure where you get your sounds versus graphics idea.
Graphics are actually incredibly expensive, and games that contain a lot of
graphics and special effects are usually more expensive.
