I find it very hard to imagine what a sidescroller dvd game would play like. Other than multiple-choice trivia games, I would think you could do a multiple-choice rpg pretty nicely on dvd. There's a company called Digital Leisure which puts out a lot of the old classic laser disk games which were popular in video arcades. I got a few of their dvds as gifts for sighted people over the years. Apparently, dvd players seem to have at least some excess computer power. The games could keep track of the number of lives players had among other things. ASsuming you could keep track of an manipulate around fifteen or twenty different stats and that randomisation were actually possible, you could set up the ultimate gamebook. I've often thought that similarly to this, the Daisy format and players used for talking books would suite audio adventures pretty nicely. Again, it depends on how much extra variables, computing power, etc is tipically available in those players.
