Thanks. I'm glad to have some clarification on those, especially the bgt questions. It's nice to know I don't have to drag my laptop with me in order to program properly.

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] several game design questions

Hi John,

Below are your questions followed by my answers to them.

Quote
Firstly, I'm wondering if there are any license issues if I use soundds from a source such as youtube in games; I would presume that it's a bit of a gray area, but I have very limited knowledge of
such things, so I figured I'd ask here.
End quote

Well, that is a bit of a tricky question. Generally, it all depends on how the sound is licensed. If you are grabbing it from a public source like Youtube then you aren't likely to know if the sound is free to use or not. So in answer to your question you will need to check and see how said sound is licensed before using it to be on the legal safe
side.

Secondly, if I get sounds from a free source, is it legal for me to
edit them before use in my projects?
End quote

Generally speaking, yes. Of course, once again check the sounds
license agreement. It will tell you if the sound can be modified by
third-parties or not.

Next, while I have bgt installed on my personal computer, I'm
wondering if it's legal for me to take the program (unregistered
version) with me on a flash drive, as I do with the jdk compiler for
java.
End quote

Yes, absolutely. The free version of BGT can be taken anywhere and run
anywhere you like.

Finally, if several people are working on a project, and only one of
them has a registration for bgt, is it legal for that person to
compile the game for the whole group and to distribute the game under
the name of the group?
End quote

Depends on if the game is commercial or freeware. If its a commercial game then I'd ask Phillip Bennefall about that. If it is freeware you
can have anyone compile it with a licensed version of BGT and
redistribute the free game for your group.

Cheers!
