Like the example of someone suggestion that you reformat your hard drive due to a modem issue. Someone might do it, even though it obviously would not solve the issue, and cause a lot of totally unnecessary wasted time and work. The suggestor obviously knew nothing about the issue, because a reformat is not always the answer.

Hi Zack and all,

Well, to clarify things a bit, I am not so much concerned with
occasional or accidental misinformation as I am when that information
is patently false or just bad because the poster doesn't do his or her
research on a given topic. I think we are all prone to a bit of
misinformation from time to time like accidentally supplying the wrong
web site or email address when asked, and there is no harm done to
anyone. Its a mistake, and the poster can apologize and move on.. Its
an entirely different situation when a poster tries to answer a
question of which he or she obviously knows nothing about the subject
being discussed and someone else who knows better has to go back and
set the record straight. That kind of misinformation is just
irritating, wastes everyone's time, and shouldn't be aloud to continue
on list.

Cheers!

Hi,
This seems entirely reasonable. Accuracy is important, and of course
occasional misinformation might slip through, but a guideline like this is a
good one.
Best,
Zack.
