You can register for the pvp server on
http://www.spaceo.net/register_pve.php or you can go into the account
settings and type your player name.
I happened to notice when logging in a listbox that listed server names, and
one listed was so pve, aka player vs environment, so when I sent a mail to
the devs asking about a fix to the quadrent map I also asked about whether
it was possible to signup for this server since I equally don't find pvp the
least bit interesting either.
Regarding how it works, well it's pretty much the exact same game as on the
standard server, it just disallows attacking of other players so you can
concentrate on doing missions, building up resources and fighting off
aliens.
I don't think there are any major changes, it's not a fully pve focused game
like ce (which I also need to get back to since I've not played it for
months), but it's fun none the less.
Interesting that you let Tom lorimer know about it, I'm a big fan of that
site and directory, and indeed if the other games turn out accessible
(especially astro galaxy), I'll pass the information on to him as well..
