I'm not sure on difference in other servers since unfortunately there isn't
a server list written out anywhere.
I suspect So Wars is the oposite of So Pve, being a totally pvp focused
server (perhaps it has no missions or alien attacks), and I know Seao is
running a mod of Space Odyssey called Sea odyssey which seems exactly the
same game but with naval ships instead of space ships in a sort of fantasy
pirate setting.
The others though I don't know. usually elite servers in these sorts of
games are for especially experienced veteran players and have more harsh
consequences or less easy ways out, like perhaps there are less resources
around or missions give lower rewards or something, but as I said I'm
guessing here.
Still, it was the Pve server that caught my attention for obvious reasons me
disliking having my games interfered with by other players' attacks, and not
being bothered about attacking myself.
No idea on the guide display i'm afraid, it just appears a standard webpage
to me with internet explorer.

I have tried reading the guide but on the mac it does not seem to display
correctly.

well as the text boxes for username and password there is a dropdown for
server. Select the so pve server in that list and hit the login button,
(if you check the "remember me" box it'll remember this too).

either by logging into your account on the main server and writing your
player id (the number after your name), into the box and then changing
the dropdown to so pve, or if it's easier just to create a new account
you can go to http://www.spaceo.net/register_pve.php and register
straight off.
