Hi Dark and all,
Here is how I do podcasting for various apps.
First, I get a patchcord that hooks from the headphone jack of my iPhone to my computer. If you're lucky enough to be able to monitor your microphone, that's all you'll need. Otherwise, you'll need an adapter with two female 8th-inch inputs and one male output. The patchcord goes into one of the inputs while your headphones goes into the other one, then of course the output goes to the computer's input. By the way, I hate Lenovo because they crippled this sound card and I can't monitor my mike. Once you've got it set up to where you can record sections of audio from your phone to your computer, it's time to turn your iPhone into a microphone. To do this, I open Garage Band and turn on input monitoring, but there are other apps that will also work. A new one has recently come out, but only works on iOS 7. Once you can yourself through the earphones, test audio quality one more time just to be safe. Then, you can start recording, open the app your podcasting about, and play it--and talk as you play. No expensive hardware needed. The whole setup costs about ten dollars--six for the patchchord and special adapter, and four for Garage Band.

Hi Lori

The problem isn't recording specifically, I have a digital recorder for that, it's rather getting the wherewithall together to reccord backing and then my voice over the top. It's one of these things I've always wanted to look into but haven't got around to unfrotuantely.

Beare the grue!

Dark.
